Herman Miller Introduces New Mesh Material to Eames Aluminum Group



One of Herman Miller's all-time classic product lines, the Eames Aluminum Group of seating, now is available with a new, durable mesh material.

"This is the next big step in the ongoing evolution of comfort and style that has always characterized the Eames Aluminum Group," says Wayne Baxter, product manager, Seating, at Herman Miller.

The mesh material, which Herman Miller has named "Cygnus," is specifically engineered to fit the design of Eames Aluminum Group chairs.

Similar to the Herman Miller Aeron chair's Pellicle fabric in its aeration and translucent qualities, Cygnus features "elastometric" properties of strength and flexibility that provide a custom-contoured fit to efficiently distribute the user's weight evenly across the seat and back. The mesh fabric allows air to pass through the chair to further enhance long-term comfort.

"Interestingly," Baxter notes, "an early version of the Aluminum Group chairs featured a polyester mesh covering. Herman Miller replaced the mesh with naugahyde vinyl, and later added upholstered cushions with the Soft Pad Group. Recent technological improvements in the fabric inspired us to reintroduce the mesh material option."

The Eames Aluminum Group of seating is among the many timeless classics to result from Herman Miller's 30-year relationship with designers Charles and Ray Eames.

"The qualities that have always defined the Aluminum Group--appearance, comfort, and durability--remain firmly in place," says Ray Kennedy, director of Colours, Materials and Finishes for Herman Miller. "We're very excited about the updated performance characteristics Cygnus brings to the chairs."

Eames Aluminum Group seating with Cygnus comes in side chair, management chair, and executive chair models. Cygnus is available in black; white will be offered as a special colour. Additional information is available from authorized Herman Miller dealers.
