Size/Fit Reference

The anthropometric dimensions such as height and weight have a close relationship to chair size preference.
Herman Miller workchairs have a maximum load limit of 135 kg.

The New Global Standard That Fits
People of All Sizes and Postures

A chair designed just for people of average size will never satisfy
everyone. Nor will a chair designed for a single posture suited to a single
job activity ever be enough. What we need is a chair that fits people of
all sizes and postures. The Aeron, the next-generation work chair from
Herman Miller, accommodates the full variety of postures we require in our offices.

Styling and Features

Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick considered diversity to be of the greatest
importance in their creation of the Aeron chair. The Kinemat tilt that is a distinctive feature of the chair supports the full
range of motion from forward leaning through reclining. The chair is built
so that users can take advantage of the many adjustment features to easily customize it for a particular job. The height and depth of lumbar support may also be adjusted to fit the natural shape of a user's spinal column.

Unique Functionality and Comfort

The Aeron chair is characterized by its unique Pellicle suspension, which
adjusts itself to the user's posture to distribute weight evenly across the
entire seat. The Pellicle material also enhances airflow, providing comfort
even over extended periods of use. The arm adjustment dial allows the user to set the arm to the height desired, and the adjustable arm angle supports a wide range of work activities.

In this way, the Aeron chair succeeds as the first chair endowed with
universality, in the true sense of the word: it is adaptable to a wide
range of environments, from the executive office, specific work stations
and conference rooms to the home lounge. The Aeron chair is indeed the new global standard for new office environments.

How To Use Aeron Chair
Note: Tilt firmness is set at the highest tension for ease of shipping. Turn the tall knob under seat on the left towards the minus sign (backwards, seen from seated position) 20-30 times to ease.
(1)
Adjusting seat height (gas pressure type)
Oblong lever under seat at right

To raise: While taking your weight off the chair, lift the lever up. Let the lever go when you reach the right height for you.
To lower: While seated, lift the lever up. Let the lever go when you reach your preferred height.

*The most natural height is that at which your thighs and feet are resting flat, parallel to the floor.

(2)
Adjusting tilt tension
Tall knob on right side under seat

To increase tension:
Turn knob in direction of the plus sign (forward, seen from seated position).
To decrease tension: Turn knob in direction of the minus sign (backward, seen from seated position).

*The optimum tension of the backrest when it provides stability and back support upon reclining. The seat will return naturally as you revert to an upright posture.

(3)
Lumbar Depth
Thick pad on back of chair

To adjust depth: Using equal pressure on each end of lumbar support pad, lift it out of its track in back of chair. Flip it over and replace in track. (Notice that one side of support pad is thicker than the other side.)

*Switch between thick and thin sides so that it comfortably supports the natural curve of your spine.

(4)
Lumbar Height
Thick pad on back of chair

To change height: Using equal pressure on each end of lumbar support pad, raise or lower it to desired position within adjustment track.

*Adjust lumbar height so that it comfortably supports the natural curve of your spine.

(5)
Arm Height
Wheel on base of arm support

To raise or lower arm: While seated, turn wheel upward until arm loosens. Grasp base of arm support and raise or lower to desired height. Turn wheel downward to lock.

*Adjust height of each chair arm so your arms are supported. This helps take weight off your shoulders.

Lever on base of arm support: While seated, turn lever upwards until arm loosens, grab base of arm and raise or lower it to desired position. Push down lever to lock arm into position.

*Left and right arms are independent. Adjust the height of each chair arm to take weight off your arms.

*Take care to properly set the arm positions by fully returning lever down to fixed position.

(6)
Arm Angle
Front of each armpad

To swing arms in or out: While seated, grasp front end of armpad and pivot it to the left or right.

Adjusting arm angle can help support different types of work and shifts in posture. Swing chair arms inward for support while using keyboard. Swing arm out to support use of computer mouse.

*If working at a computer, angle the chairarm pads in so that when you use the keyboard, your arms are comfortably supported by the chair arms. Angle them away when using the mouse.

*Three position settings available.

(7)
Forward Tilt
Front oblong lever under seat at front left

Tilting seat forward: Lean back into a slight recline. Lift lever, then lean forward again. The chair will be tilted forward.
To resume horizontal position: Lean back into a slight recline. Push lever down and lean forward again. This will cancel the forward tilt.

*Turn tall knob below seat at right 20-30 times in the direction of the minus sign (backward, seen from seated position) before adjusting chair.

*Good for work requiring long periods of concentration. Allows use of the seat at a slightly greater height than usual.

*Maintain the forward tilt position by setting the tilt adjuster to the most forward setting.

(8)
Tilt Limiter
Oblong lever under seat on left

To set tilt limiter: Recline to the desired position, then lift the lever until it makes a sound. Settling into the backrest once again, you will recline to the set position.
To release tilt limiter: Sit on seat without reclining and release lever until it makes a sound.

*When you stop reclining, the seat back will return to its original position (it is not fixed).

(9)
PostureFit Adjustment
Knob on right side of chair

To engage: While seated, turn knob forward (clockwise).
To disengage: While seated, turn knob backward (counterclockwise).

*Be seated with your back in the pocket of the chair back. Set the tilt limiter in an upright position. Then adjust PostureFit so that it comfortably supports the natural alignment of your spine and provides lower back comfort.
